Privacy
Short version: we don't want your data. The site works without an account and nothing you do on it is sent to us unless you submit a show.
What is stored on your device, and why
- Your consent choice (necessary). One small record so we don't ask again. Change it any time with "Privacy settings" in the footer.
- Saved shows (necessary, only when you tap the star). A list of show IDs in your browser's local storage. We never see it.
- Personalized ordering (only with your consent). A short note of the venues, genres and towns you open, used to order each day's list on your device. Decline and it is never created; switch it off later and it is deleted at once. By default each day's list is shuffled, so no venue is favored.
- Near me asks your browser for your location only when you tap it, keeps it for the current session only, and never sends it to us.
- Offline copy (necessary). The app keeps the last calendar in your browser cache so it opens with no signal.
No advertising, no analytics, no tracking pixels, no cookies from anyone else. Fonts are served from this site, not from Google.
Requests that leave your device
- Maps. Opening the map view loads tiles from OpenStreetMap, which means your browser sends an ordinary web request (including your IP address) to their servers. See the OSM Foundation privacy policy. The map does not load until you open it.
- Hosting. Netlify serves the site and keeps standard server logs for up to 30 days.
When you submit a show or a news post
- Whether you use the form or email events@amclive.org, we receive what you wrote plus your email address so we can confirm details. The message is stored in a private review queue, an automated assistant proposes a listing from it, and a person approves or rejects it. Your email address is never published and the queue entry is deleted within one year.
- News posts are published with your first name only, unless you ask for a different credit.
- The show itself is published openly under CC BY 4.0 and may be reused by others.
- To correct or remove a submission, email events@amclive.org.
Your rights
Under GDPR, the UK GDPR and similar laws you can ask what we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, or object to its use. For anything stored on your device, you are in control: clear it from Privacy settings or your browser. For a show or correction you emailed us, write to events@amclive.org and we will answer within 30 days. The controller is the Appalachian Music Collective, c/o ETSU Research Corporation, Johnson City, Tennessee.
Listings about you
If you're an artist or venue and want a listing corrected or removed, email us. We'll act within two business days and add the source to our skip list if you ask.
